This company, a subsidiary of large group, was a traditional 'metal-bashing' one which produced a number of basic products for mixing and pumping materials. The company was faced with increasingly competitive markets, as well as the impending demise of approximately 40% of its business due to a changing political climate.
In order to address these issues, a strategy was formulated to transform the company into a more responsive, market-led one in order to secure its leading position in existing markets and to allow it to expand into other similar market areas. This required transformation of both the organisation, through implementing new design, production,service and quality system, as well as the product offerings, through the introduction of Information Technology and electronic control and measurement systems.
In a period of 18 months, the company went from one that took 4 months to deliver a minor change to an uncomplicated electro-mechanical product, into one that could design and deliver a bespoke, complex, electronically controlled product in less than 4 weeks. This allowed the company to consolidate and increase its existing market share, replace the business lost due to the political climate and increase both its turnover and profitabillity.
